Summer 2019, I had the privilege of working at QVC within their Design,
Development & Global Sourcing Department, a branch of their greater
Merchandising Department (also housing Buying and Planning teams). I worked as
an Apparel Tech Design Intern, where I gained hands-on experience in developing
technical packages, measuring incoming sample garments from our overseas
counterparts, and used industry PLM systems to communicate fit corrections to
our production factories.

Once
a fit sample garment arrived from our factories, it was my job to spec
(measure) it and notate whether or not it was out of tolerance (a small range
in which a sample can measure and still be approved for production) noted in
the tech pack POM sheets. Afterwards, the sample would go to the tech designer
to conduct a fit session with fit models to observe the physical placement on
the body. I shadowed these sessions and observed the process of writing fit
comments (of any design/measurement changes) that would then be communicated
back to the factories.

QVC
overall was incredibly welcoming and truly encouraged our professional
development. The skills learned from our Product Development, Patternmaking,
and Illustrator classes were keys to our success throughout the internship. I’m
so grateful to have had the opportunity to work for such a unique retailer.
Thank you, QVC!

(Summer 2019)

| https://www.fashion.udel.edu/Images Intern Profiles/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=37 | |
