Five students from the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies are winners of the 2017 Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) competition. Each student receives a $5,000 scholarship, an internship in the apparel industry, and is assigned an executive mentor. The award also provides students with opportunities to network at various industry events and to meet executives in the industry and other former winners of the competition.
The University of Delaware is one of 58 academic institutions selected to participate in the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund competition. This year proved to be the most competitive competition in the history of the organization with 569 applicants. Scholarships were given to a total of 229 students. Other institutions participating include FIT, Parsons School of Design, Harvard, Drexel, University of Penn, and Cornell.
The University of Delaware has been the recipient of a total of $200,000 in FSF scholarships since entering the competition in 2011. "Our students continue to succeed in spite of the increased competition of this program", said Martha Carper, the Director of the FSF Program for the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies at UD.
The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) is a national, non-profit association dedicated to promoting education of the fashion, arts, and business by granting scholarships to talented students and facilitating internships, mentorships and career programs. FSF's goal is to advance the fashion industry by encouraging gifted and enterprising young people to pursue careers in design, merchandising, retailing and business so the industry will continue to attract dedicated, capable and creative individuals.
